Practical Tips for Drafting Contracts and Avoiding Ethical Issues

Lisa L. Dahm, JD, LL.M.

Director of Continuing Legal Education and Adjunct Professor

The Texas Rules of Responsibility (and the ABA Model Rules) primarily address ethical issues that arise in or because of litigation.  Attorneys who spend the majority of their time outside of a courtroom, however, also face ethical dilemmas.  Unfortunately, when they look to the Rules for assistance, they must either analogize their ethical query to one described in a comment to a Rule – or settle for a Rule that applies only tangentially.

This interactive session of Just Ethics will explore the most common ethical rules encountered by transaction attorneys and demonstrate how those rules apply in a relatively typical (but complex) contract drafting situation.
