September 9, 2008—The South Texas College of Law Alumni Association honors Elaine A. Carlson as the 2008 Distinguished Alumna. The Alumni Association honors one graduate each year for their service to their school, the profession, and the community. Carlson, a professor of civil appellate law at South Texas, is marking her 25th year of teaching. She serves on the Texas Supreme Court Advisory Committee and is the author of several books and articles in her areas of specialty. She also served as the first president of The Woodland’s Symphony Guild. Carlson is a 1979 graduate of South Texas.
Carlson will be the featured speaker at the Alumni Association’s Annual Meeting at 12:00 noon, Friday October 24 at a location to be announced soon. The luncheon will also honor attorney Stewart Gagnon of Fulbright & Jaworski, this year’s recipient of the Public Service Award. Gagnon, class of 1974, is a tireless advocate for families and children in Texas working with several legal aid organizations and personally handling approximately 100 pro bono cases a year.
