South Texas Advocates Capture First Place at National First Amendment Moot Court Competition
October 26, 2009--Students from South Texas College of Law won the 16th Annual Wechsler First Amendment Moot Court Competition in Washington, D.C. The South Texas team of Christopher Burt, Kaylan Estes, and Kimberly Jessett was one of 32 teams competing at American University Washington College of Law. The students argued a hypothetical case with issues concerning reporter's privilege, anonymous sources, and on-line defamation. South Texas beat the students from the University of San Diego School of Law in the final round. The winning team was coached by South Texas Associate Dean T. Gerald Treece, Robert Galloway '91, Ellie Hodges '98, and Paige Woodard Mitchell '05. This is the 102nd national title earned by South Texas advocates.
