About the Program: An Overview
Santa Clara began its program in Sydney, Australia in 2004. For 2008, in cooperation with South Texas College of Law, Santa Clara has revised and expanded its Sydney program, adding a second course at Murdoch University Law School in Perth on International Dispute Resolution. In Sydney, the Australian Law course and the Law and Technology course are both conducted at, and in cooperation with, the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) School of Law.

All students spend one week in Sydney, where they secure an overview of Australian law and legal institutions. After the one week overview course, students may then take a second course, either Law and Technology in Sydney or International Dispute Resolution in Perth. Thereafter, students have the option of undertaking a four week internship in a number of Australian cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Canberra or Brisbane. In this way, students can secure a comprehensive view of Australia over the summer (or simply spend all or part of the summer in Sydney). A total of 7 units may be earned by combining courses and internships.
Both UTS and Murdoch are public law schools of the highest quality.

About UTS
UTS has Australia's leading faculty in technology—not unlike MIT in the United States except UTS has a law school! The law faculty at UTS is internationally known for its expertise in technology law. It is appropriate, therefore, that the program in Sydney emphasizes the areas of the law influenced by technology: intellectual property, environmental law, genetics, cyberspace issues and biotechnology. In this course, no technical experience or expertise is expected! This is an introduction for the generalist. Classes generally are in the mornings for approximately three hours, four days a week. UTS is located in the very heart of Sydney, on the monorail line, two blocks from the Central Station and a hundred yards from Darling Harbour. The law school is housed in very modern facilities on the main campus of the University.

About Sydney
Sydney is clearly one of the top cities in the world in terms of natural beauty and general livability. Its harbor is one of the world’s wonders. It is one of the few cities with world class ocean beaches literally in the city itself. Sydney is also the center of Australian intellectual property law and a world center for the exploration of bio-technology law and ethics.
About Murdoch
Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia has established itself as an innovative leader in Western Australia, and one of Australia's truly excellent law schools. Located in a new suburban campus, Murdoch University is equidistant from Perth’s Central Business District and Fremantle, a delightful college town and yachting center. Under the leadership of Dean Gabriel Moens, the school of law has developed an international reputation for quality. Murdoch is a leader in clinical programs, with its SCALES law clinic and faculty student focus on international trade, advocacy and alternative dispute resolution. Murdoch University hosts the annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition. Our program in international dispute resolution fits precisely with Murdoch’s great strengths.

About Perth
Perth is the capital of the state of Western Australia. It is the political, legal, education, and economic center for an area nearly ½ the geographic size of the United States. The vast natural resource wealth of Western Australia makes Perth a dynamic trading partner for Southeast Asia, as well as a major financial and transportation hub.
The city itself has a population of about 2.0 million people. Perth combines dynamic, modern skyline with interesting Victorian structures (including the City Hall). It sits astride the wide Swan River, and is graced with one of the best open spaces and park systems in the world.
